May 11, 2013 Meeting

This Saturday's meeting will be a great time to get to know the other members. We will not have a program or agenda. No dues, either. Just lots of time for talking and sharing. Gwen will be holding down the fort for us. Thanks, Gwen!
I spoke to Nancy today and she has ordered copies of Quilty and Modern Quilting magazines for the shop. Here's a hint. You may want a copy of this month's Quilty. It fits right in with a program that Joy is planning.
Have fun. Joy and I will miss you. We will be back for the June meeting.

April Meeting Highlights

Step right up! Several members volunteered to chair key positions to keep our meetings dynamic and fun. Thank you!
April's "Polaroid" Block of the Month was a super success...
just look at all these stories captured in "pictures"!

For our Program, Joy demonstrated how to "make fabric" using scraps to add more variety and pizzazz to our quilts. June's Block of the Month will use this fabulous technique!

Show & Tell

Gwen sewed a fun reminder for herself...

Karen shared two amazing quilts!
Malinda's Madrona Road Challenge quilt - so fresh!
Pat used blocks she received in an exchange to make this bright quilt .
Tricia's "T" quilt in happy orange and pink.
Don't forget to join PMQG’s Flickr Group for perpetual Show &Tell!

NEXT MONTH:
~ May's meeting will be a Show & Tell / Sew-in! Bring something for Show & Tell and a small something to work on - you can also use the time to cut out your next project!  If you attend May's get-together please TAKE PICTURES to share with those who can't be there.
~There will be no Block of the Month exchanged at May's meeting.

Coming in JUNE...

Two Opportunities to Serve

PMQG members have two new opportunities for service!

Riverside's NICU has a need for brightly colored quilts to send home with babies who "graduate" from the unit, as well as a need for soft-colored quilts to present to grieving parents. Quilts can be anywhere from 18” x 24” to 35” x 42” or so.

We also have the option to sew "pea pods" for stillborn babies. Tiny babes are placed in these coverings before being presented to their parents.  You can find the pattern on our Facebook Group Page, under the "Files" tab or click HERE.

Finished items can be brought to Guild meetings.

March Meeting Highlights

Our Potholder Swap was a huge success. Look at all these pretty potholders!
Who will actually USE theirs?

Pam T. won the  Block of the Month drawing and went home with some beautiful Rose Garden blocks!

The Quilt-Along is in full swing! Strips were swapped and some of our brand new quilters were given strips so they could get in on the fun.  For those participating, create anything you want from your blocks (quilt, table runner, wall hanging, tote bag...)
Your finished projects are due at the November meeting. Directions for making your blocks are HERE.
TIP: Make sure the first seam you rip out is a dark fabric and work down from there.

New Business:
The Modern Quilt Guild is restructuring, and individual Guilds have options for how they relate to MQG. Guild members are encouraged to watch the
MQG's presentation for all the details. Please bring your questions and comments to our next meeting.  The Guild will decide as a group how to proceed in light of these changes.

Show & Tell

Jennifer's fun game quilt!

Katie's sporting some potholder love!

Karen completed this bright beauty with scraps left over to share!

Michelle shared this snazzy cube she made for Nancy's shop.

Pam showed off this scrappy beauty.
Sharon took a class at Mid-Atlantic to make this beautiful tree!

Cathy's bright wall hanging!
Gwen's class at Mid-Atlantic taught fusing without a pattern. Cute!!

Don't forget! For perpetual Show &Tell, members can join PMQG’s Flickr Group!

NEXT MONTH:
The Block of the Month is the Polaroid block. These fun blocks have the dimensions and look of beloved Polaroid instant snapshots. This is a fun way to use any pictorial fabric in your stash!

Get your scraps out! Joy will share a fun, easy way to use them to add pizzazz to your projects.

See you in April!

Becoming members of The Modern Quilt Guild

The Modern Quilt Guild is becoming more structured and will be requiring its member guilds to pay dues for the services that the MQG will be providing.  Please watch this webinar to see what the costs and benefits will be for the Peninsula Modern Quilt Guild to become a member guild.  We will continue to discuss these changes at our next meeting.
