July Meeting Highlights

This month the PMQG beat the heat by staying in and sewing together! Members finished projects, worked on charity bibs and had fun getting to know each other better. 

It was also our "The World Isn't Flat and Neither Is My Quilt" challenge reveal, and there was some fun interpretation of the theme.




Members exchanged some great looking quilted magnets in this month's swap. 



NEXT MONTH:
~ In August we will be making Crisscross place mats. These are super easy, fun to make and perfect for gifts. If you're fast you might have time to layer and turn them. 

     Supplies:
        - 4 coordinating fat quarters (tops)
        - Sewing machine, scissors, thread, rotary cutter, ruler and mat
        - Power strips and extension cords
To complete them you will need:

        - 4 batting pieces measuring about 14" x 20" each
        - 7/8 yard of backing fabric

~ The August Block of the Month is a Modern Log Cabin.
~ Malinda will present the next Guild Challenge.  We have a spot to showcase our challenges at Mid-Atlantic in February, so let's rise tot he challenge and show 'em what we've got!

2014 Raffle Quilt Winner

Congratulations to Jenna S. from Richmond, VA, winner of the PMQG's first raffle quilt! Jenna picked up her prize on July 4th, which also happens to be her birthday! Her immediate plan is to hang the quilt in her home and show it off to everyone who visits.

June Meeting Highlights

Hello, summer!
The PMQG held its First Annual Guild Picnic, and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day to kick off the summer season. 

The Block of the month was Bring Your Own Block. All these colors looked like summer itself. 
You can't have a picnic without the yum!

~ All the raffle quilt tickets are in! We will be drawing the name of our lucky winner July 1st at 6:00 PM in front of the Oyster Point City Center fountain.  Join us!

NEXT MONTH:
~ UPDATE: July's meeting will be a sew day! Members are encouraged to bring a project to work on. If using your machine, please bring a long extension cord/power strip. 

Secret Pals were assigned. Don't forget to show your SP some love every month!
~ If you signed up, July's swap is quilted magnets. A list of our upcoming swaps can be found on the Challenges/Swaps tab above. 
~ July's block of the month is Golden Gate. Don't forget to use modern fabrics. If in doubt, choose a fabric that's one color plus white. 
~ We're still waiting on word about our new meeting place. Check back for updates!
Name tags will be passed out at July's meeting. Beginning in July anyone caught without a name tag will be "fined" 25 cents.

June's Meeting & Potluck Picnic

We're welcoming summer with a pot-luck picnic in the park! 
Join us for food, games and lots of fun!

10:00 AM - 1:00 PM 

We are meeting at Harwood Mills park in Yorktown, on Oriana Road next to the reservoir.  Clothesline will be strung to show off everyone's Show & Tell and BOMs.

May Meeting Highlights

"Pleased to meet ya!" Members had time to chat and get better acquainted during May's "Speed Dating" program. Profile cards were passed around as everyone rotated through the room and shared fun facts about themselves. My, what an interesting bunch of characters quilters we have!



Business:
~ Sell all your raffle quilt tickets ! Money needs to be turned in at June's meeting. The drawing will be held July 1st.
~ We are scouting for a new meeting place. Stay tuned for developments. 

Show & Tell:

Amanda incorporated "ugly" fabrics into this scrappy gem. Nothing ugly here!

April Meeting Highlights

During April's Charity Sew Day members successfully sewed over 60 of these sweet blankets for the NICU. Many hands make light work, and our guild proved it! Thank you to all who cut, sewed, pressed and donated supplies. 









Business:
~ If you did not pick up your raffle quilt tickets at April's meeting, please contact Lise or plan to pick them up at May's meeting. All members are asked to participate! Ticket money needs to be turned in no later than June's meeting. The drawing will be held July 1st.

~Dues are $25 and due at June's meeting. 

~ A new Challenge has been presented!

March Meeting Higlights

March's meeting was the PMQG's Mid-Atlantic Show & Tell. Members shared their class experiences and showed off some of their fun purchases. We can't wait for next year!
Barb took Laura Wasilowski's  fun Zentangle class. 
MAQF was Cathy's VERY FIRST quilt show!


Joy took Esterita Austin's Powerful Portrait class. 
Yvette made this beauty in Jenny Rayment's 
Tucked & Twisted class.

~ The new slate of officers was approved and Malinda passed the baton. Your new Officers     are:

~ Malinda was surprised with a parting gift of bright Economy Blocks made by guild Members. 


~ Our Raffle Quilt was a huge success at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Fest! Many thanks to all of you for volunteering to get our first fundraiser off to a fabulous start!

NEXT MONTH:
~ April's meeting will be a sew day to make wee blankets for still-born babies. Please bring:

        - Pre-cut 12.5" WHITE flannel squares
        - Pre-cut 12.5" WHITE fabric squares

        - 1/4" up to 1/2" wide WHITE ribbon
        - Sewing machine, scissors, white thread, cutting supplies

~ Raffle tickets and a photo of the Raffle Quilt will be distributed to each member at April's meeting. Members are encouraged to sell all their tickets. Start thinking of who you know! 
~ April's Block of the Month is the Economy Block.
~ Malinda will present a new Guild Challenge

~ Tricia will announce May's Swap.
