February Meeting Highlights

This month designer, Alison Glass, came to visit the PMQG! Not only did she share her experiences as a designer, she also brought her pop-up shop and sample quilts. Members had the opportunity to view and purchase her fabrics, patterns, book and more.

NEXT MONTH:

~ We'll be playing Strip Poker: Bring (20) 2 ½” strips (solids or white with one other color) to play. IF you don't have standard yardage, 2 cuts from a fat quarter = 1 WOF strip
~ Placemat swap! Make TWO matchin placemats to participate. We will play the Yankee (White Elephant) Swap so make sure your goods are wrapped!
~ Challenge Quilt: The center block (star) of your medallion quilt is 'due'. First row challenge will be assigned in March and due in April.
~ April's Block of the Month is the Square Knot Block. Don't forget to make extras of this fun block for our charity quilts.

Happy 2015! January Highlights

Happy New Year!
We kicked the new year off looking at quilts past and present. Several members brought one of their first quilts and a recent project and the rest of us had to guess whose was whose. 
Not easy!

We also swapped sewing room notions, Yankee Swap style, with some fierce competition going on.

Emily is a Pittsburgh Penguins fan and made a quilt to show it. 
Gala made these cute colorblock place mats. 


NEXT MONTH:
~ Our sweet friend Alison Glass will be joining us to talk about fabric design and show off some of her new goodies. She's also bringing her pop-up shop, so save your pennies. You don't want to miss it!
~ Iris & Gwen will present our 2015 Quilt Challenge. You can take a peek HERE to get started choosing your fabric.
~ There is a Sew-In immediately following February's meeting to get started on our Challenge quilts or work on current projects. Bring a bag lunch, sewing supplies and power strips. 

~ 2014 Quilt Challenge participants: Quilts are DUE at February's meeting! Quilts MUST have a 4" sleeve and a label that includes your name and phone number.  If you will not be attending February's meeting, please make arrangements to get your quilt to Iris. 

~ February's Block of the Month is the Scrappy Triangle block. Don't forget to make extras of this fun block for our charity quilts.

December Meeting Highlights

This month the PMQG wrapped up a successful year with a party! Members shared their favorite holiday dishes and bid on some great gifts in our Chinese Auction.

Members also revealed their creative "This is My Modern Quilt" Challenge quilts.  The challenge was to use only one print and unlimited solids to modernize an old favorite or create a new design. These quilts and more will be on display at the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Festival in February. Great job, everyone!

66 "peapod" blankets for the NICU
90+ hats made for the homeless
140 Bibs for residents of a local senior center

Business: 
~ Valerie is still collecting Charm Squares (5" square) for use in our charity quilts. Please bring your charm squares or fabric to be cut up to meetings.
~ The proposed budget for 2015 was handed out at December's meeting. It's also posted under "files" on our Facebook Family page. We will vote on the budget at January's meeting. If you have any questions, please submit them via the guild email before 1/ 2.

November Meeting Highlights

This month’s meeting featured Bingo fun, followed by a Charity Sew-In to make fleece hats for the homeless. 




So many hats!


Members also participated in the handmade (quilting optional) ornament swap.

NEXT MONTH:
~ December is our Holiday Party & Chinese AuctionBring your friends, especially if they're interested in becoming a member. $5 at the door includes 10 tickets for the auction, lots of food and holiday cheer! ~ We will have our Challenge Quilt RevealQuilts should be completely finished (pieced/quilted/bound). Please have the exact dimensions of your quilt ready, if you haven't already submitted them to Iris. Your quilt MUST have a 4" sleeve on the back. 
~  Bring any additional bibs for the senior center. Malinda will be delivering them on December 21. At last update we were at 136 - only 14 to go to reach our 150 goal! 
~ December's Block of the Month is the Fast Forward Block. Use 5 inch squares (charm squares) of white and modern red, green, blue/aqua and gray. Don't forget - anyone can be a block angel by making an extra block or more for charity quilts! 
The colors? negative space? quilting? pattern? Be prepared to share!
